Joyce Fay Fletcher-Ndiaye passed away peacefully on January 20, 2013, at Stafford Hospital Center in Stafford, VA, after a courageous battle with cancer. A loving mother and wife, Joyce spent most of her career as a librarian, first with the DC Public Library System, and then with the Prince William Public School System, where her last position was at Saunders Middle School in Manassas, VA. Joyce was an avid reader; an intrepid traveler; an aficionado of music and the arts; and, a writer of poetry and fiction. In 2010, she published an award-winning novel, The Library.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 31 years, Latif; two sons, Karim and Ibrahima; her mother, Lauretta Fletcher; and many friends and relatives.
The viewing will be held on Monday, January 28, at 11 a.m., followed by a service, at Allen AME Church, 2498 Alabama Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020. Interment will take place at Stafford Memorial Park in Stafford, VA.
