JOYCE MARGARET CLIPPARD
Joyce was born in Addlestone, Surrey
England on November 28, 1928. She was the third of eight children.
A woman of exceptional courage and spirit, she helped her father extinguish German flare bombs during WWII
. Joyce joined the British Navy at 18, and served 3-1/2 years. She was stationed in Northern Ireland when she met the love of her life, American sailor James "Jim" Clippard.
Joyce and Jim were married in New York on December 17, 1949, and enjoyed 63 years of marriage until her departure on August 9, 2013.
On December 15, 1959 Joyce became a United States Citizen.
Joyce was a vibrant, talented and devoted wife and mother. She was an accomplished seamstress who created the original Wolfie for Wolf Trap Farms. Joyce served on the Board of Directors of the Society of Virginia, Vice President of the British Commonwealth Society North America, and was a Member of The British Embassy Players group.
Joyce and her family moved with the US Navy
until 1969 when they relocated to Springfield Virginia where she lived for 43 years, before moving to Cape Girardeau Missouri in 2012.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband Jim, their three children James, Jillian Cotter and John, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five surviving sisters, nieces, and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, September 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Interment will on September 19 at Arlington National Cemetery.
