Died peacefully after a long battle with dementia on June 15, 2013 in Naples, Florida. Born in Washington D.C. in 1934, Ken graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta. After serving in the Air Force, he joined IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York and later moved to Bethesda, Maryland where he found his true professional calling in real estate.
Ken specialized in new homes sales, and eventually founded his own company Ken Murphy & Associates, Inc., which served the D.C. metropolitan area. Ken was named a Life Director and awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association. After spending thirty years in northern Virginia, Ken and his wife Pat retired to Naples, Florida in the late 1990s.
A lifelong Washington Redskins fan, Ken will be remembered by his friends and family for his happy and generous spirit, sense of humor, love of dogs and enjoyment of food. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Pat) of fifty-five years; his three daughters Kathy Zimpel, Karen Baer (Dave), and Krissy Coile (Stuart), and grandchildren Mitchell Baer, Kalli Baer, Murphy Coile and Mack Coile.
The family wants to thank the dedicated staff at Harbor Chase Memory Care and Avow Hospice for their kind care for the past several years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Collier Animal Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 10073, Naples, Florida 34101. A private burial service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Park on July 12 at 2:30 p.m. The family warmly welcomes you to attend a Celebration of Life at their home at 10816 Glen Mist Lane, Fairfax, VA 22030 immediately following the burial from 4 to 7 p.m.
