Of Woodbridge, VA passed February 16, 2014 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was the eldest son of Robert and Rita (Willock) Oliver who survive him. He was born December 11, 1946 in Washington, DC.
He graduated from Suitland High School, MD in 1964. He was a Combat Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for two years which included a tour in South Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat.
He received his Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of the State of New York (now Excelsior College), and then graduated from the University of Virginia with a Master's Degree in Land Use and Environmental Planning.
Ken worked in private sector civilian engineering companies prior to his federal service career as a real estate planner for the Department of Navy/United States Marine Corps at Quantico MCB, VA. He retired in October 2012 after 25 years of service.
Ken loved classic cars. In high school, he entered a model car magazine contest which featured his design "The Four-Eyed Vicky" on the cover of the magazine.
Ken is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Bonita (Bonnie) McCarthy Oliver, Ed.D. of Woodbridge, VA; his parents Robert and Rita Oliver of Clearwater, FL; his brother Michael (Linda) of Spring Hill, FL; his sister Cathy Oliver and his niece Sara Oliver of Dunedin, FL.
The family received friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. Dale City, VA 22193. Graveside service will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Port Tobacco, MD, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 12 p.m.
