HAM LOUIS A. HAM Centenarian and Decorated WWII Veteran Louis Ham of Alexandria, VA entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2014, at the age of 102. A longtime resident of Annandale, VA, Lou was born December 27, 1911 to Russell and Martha Ham in Charlottesville, VA. Lou married his childhood sweetheart, Myrtle French on September 6, 1935 and was married for 55 years prior to her passing. Lou enlisted in the Army in World War II and was part of the invasion of Normandy as well as campaigns in France, Belgium, and Germany. During the war, he earned numerous decorations including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart as well as the French military decoration Croix de Guerre which was presented by French President Charles De Gaulle. After the war, Lou and Myrtle lived in Annandale until they retired to Port Richey, FL in 1979 where he stayed very active golfing and fishing before returning to Virginia in 2009. Lou was an incredible person, a gentleman, father, grand-father, great-grandfather and friend. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all that knew him. Lou is survived by his two daughters, Donna Graham of Louisa, VA and Diane Fullerton of Alexandria, VA; sister, Mary Jane Allen; grandsons Glenn, David, and Alan Facey; four great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lou was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrtle, and six brothers and a sister. The family will receive friends at Murphy Funeral Home located at 1102 West Broad Street in Falls Church, VA on February 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with a service at noon. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the National World War II Memorial in honor of Louis A. Ham. The family will receive friends at Murphy Funeral Home located at 1102 West Broad Street in Falls Church, VA on February 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with a service at noon.
