On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Marcel J. Aucremanne, 89, passed away suddenly in Rockville, Maryland. He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on June 27, 1923. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marcelline Coyne, on March 9, 1945. The couple moved to Rockville in 1953, where they joined St. Mary's Catholic Church, and were active in many parish organizations. At the time of his death, he had served as an usher at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass continuously for 58 years.
He was also active in the Knights of Columbus Montgomery Council No. 2323, and served as Grand Knight in 1963-64.
In 1959 , he joined the Office of Space Science at NASA in Washington, and worked on the space program until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Aucremanne is survived by two brothers, Albert Aucremanne of Rockville, Maryland and Joseph Aucremanne of Marathon, Florida, three daughters; Jeanne Washburn (Bill), Marcella Hickey (John),and Marie T. Valentine (Michael); seven grandchildren, Christopher Washburn (Michelle), Brent Washburn, Jonathan Washburn (Elana), Daniel Washburn (Christina), Carolyn Hickey Vallone (Michael), Sarah Valentine Gepper (David), and Evan Valentine (Patricia); and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcelline, who died in 2008 after 63 years of marriage, two brothers, Fernand and Camille; and one sister Beatrice (Sister Marie Camille). Friends will be received at PUMPHREY'S COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Montgomery Ave. (Rt. 28, exit 6A just off I-270 ) on Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 520 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Maryland on Saturday, February 23, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School Scholarship Fund, 600 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Maryland 20852. Please view and sign the family guestbook at
