Maryann "Molly" Dwan Ellsworth , 77, of Alexandria, VA died peacefully on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014. Molly was born and raised in Washington, DC and settled in Old Town, Alexandria with her husband Sam in 1961. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan, she later obtained a master's degree in social work from Catholic University and worked in her local community as a child and family therapist. Always a keen advocate for children, Molly was involved with local schools and charities supporting disabled and disadvantaged youth and worked to improve the lives of impoverished children and families in Haiti. She was also actively engaged in local politics and served as a campaign manager for former Alexandria City Council members Nora Lamborne and Patsy Ticer.
Molly is survived and dearly missed by her husband; their three daughters Deborah, of Alexandria, VA, Kelley, of Washington, DC and Katherine , of Warrenton, VA;, her sister Ursula Jaeger,of Port Republic, MD, and her ten beloved grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 12 at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Old Town, Alexandria. Reception to follow.
