Colonel Robert Alexander Reade, born November 14, 1923, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2013 in his family home in Springfield, Virginia. Colonel Reade served 33 years in the United States Army where he saw military action in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. After his retirement, Colonel Reade was active as a member of the Arlington Rotary Club. He also became the Executive Vice President for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce where he served the community for 10 years. Colonel Reade spent his spare time pursuing his lifelong passion of keeping young on the tennis court. He spent over ten years as the number one player in his age group in the mid-Atlantic region. At the age of 75 he achieved the pinnacle of his tennis career with a National Ranking of 6th place. He also achieved the position of Number One Spooferdoofer, a highly coveted position amongst his family. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Kirkpatrick Reade, and his three children, Martha Woodland Barden, Robert Alexander Reade Jr., and Stephen Kirkpatrick Reade, as well as nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, October 19, 2013, 2 p.m. at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main Street, Fairfax VA 22030, with a reception to follow at Kirk Reade's home in Fairfax Station VA. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Honor Flight charity,
