ROBERT ANDREW THOMPSON  
Capt. U.S. ARMY (Ret.)  

Of Arlington, VA passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at the age of 86. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Marian O'Connor Thompson, and his two brothers, Donald, of Belleville, IL and Richard, of Godfrey, IL.
Capt. Thompson was the son of proud parents, Alice and Robert B. Thompson (both deceased) of Alton, IL. He was also preceded in death by his younger sister, Kathleen.
Capt. Thompson served honorably, as a soldier, in the 11th Airborne and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, after which, until retirement, he served overseas, in the Foreign Service, as an officer of the Agency for International Development. He was an avid golfer and belonged to various related organizations including the U.S.G.A. and the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington.
He will be especially remembered for his kindness and charity towards all who knew and loved him.
Friends may call to the Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd, from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 10. Memorial services will be held at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22205, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 11. He will be laid to rest, with honors, in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.
