On December 16, 2013, Robert (Bob) Braden, 87, originally of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully in Winchester Medical Center from Parkinson's disease. He was a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church for 42 years and later attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Bob was a retired Fairfax County Public Schools teacher at Groveton High School and was Education Coordinator at Bryant Adult Center. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College and Virginia Tech, where he was an adjunct faculty member from 1968-82.
Bob spent the last 11 years in Winchester with daughter Carol Killmer, son-in-law Jim Killmer, granddaughters Katie and Elizabeth, and great-grandson Kasen. He is also survived by his son Robert Braden Jr., daughter-in-law Joan Braden, grandson Dennis and granddaughter Kendall of Fairfax Station. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Faye.
Bob, a WWII veteran, enjoyed the town of Winchester, gardening at home, golfing, visiting with friends, and swimming at the Cork Street Pool.
Visitations will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 21 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Alexandria, with interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in Winchester on January 11, 2014, with more details to follow.
