One September day less than three years later, he graduated from Ohio State in the morning and married Sarah in the afternoon. They remained married for nearly 58 years, during which time they moved west to Arizona and then to California. After more than a decade in the west where Bob worked in aerospace, he joined USAID and went to work as an auditor in the Dominican Republic. Other posts included Colombia, Panama and the Philippines, as well as shorter-term postings to Ecuador, Peru, Guyana, Indonesia and other countries. He was accompanied whenever possible by his wife, who shared his love for new landscapes. Bob also was a dedicated photographer who enjoyed working in his own darkroom. When he retired in 1986, he returned to his early love of gardening, leaving behind the roses and other flowers of earlier years to grow food that he would share with family and neighbors.
