GREEN ROBERT R. GREEN Robert Rowland Green, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2014, at his home in Fredericksburg, VA with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Nita Green who survives him along with 13 of their 14 children; Nita Elder (Jay), Mary Catherine Hemphill, Paul Green (Annette), Cindy Millikin, Tom Green (Jill), JC Cummings, Jeanne Cummings-Axton (Rollo), Anne Green Hellman, Diane Hoffman (Mark), Lori Dale (Chris), Robert Green (Veronica), Ben Green, and Patrick Green. He is also survived by his loving sister, Elizabeth Heflin and her husband, Stuart Heflin, who was Bob's lifelong friend. He leaves behind 30 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Bob was pre-deceased by his first wife, Patricia Conley Green and his daughter, Mary Green. Bob was active in his community and Church. He was especially proud of the hours he dedicated towards the expansion of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Riverdale MD. Through his association with St. Bernard's, he met his second wife, Nita Green. Bob considered himself truly blessed to find true love twice in his life. Bob was born in Lakota, VA, and served as a Signalman Second Class in the US Navy during World War II. He saw action in the North Atlantic, South Pacific, Midway, Guam, Sea of Japan and Iwo Jima. He received three medals including the Victory Medal. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, Bob began a career with Citizens Bank of Maryland. He rose to Senior Vice President in charge of operations. Bob was renowned for his love of fishing, golfing and gardening. Bob's exceptional devotion and love for his family was his most important legacy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 28 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, 4801 Jeff Davis Hwy., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 1 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave., Fredericksburg, VA.
