On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, of Bethesda, MD, from complications following surgery. Beloved and devoted husband of Cynthia Miner; loving father of Timothy Miner (Kimberly), Chris Sheffield (Patrick), Scott Miner (Robin), and Michael Miner (Kristin); devoted grandfather of Joshua, Dylan, Katie, Megan, Reilly, Parker, Chloe, and Maddox; brother of Jennie Pearson (Larry); step-father of Christopher Cossitor (Jill) and Heather Corbin (Brian) and their children Carmen, Camille, Grayson, and Anderson.
Bob was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 11, 1933 and grew up in Fruitport, Michigan. He earned a Master's degree in Education from Western Michigan University. In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, the late Sandra O'Reilly Miner, with whom he had four children. Bob devoted his lifetime to the advancement of public education, first as a secondary school teacher and college professor, and later as a longtime employee of the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, DC. He left Michigan to work for the NEA in 1967 and has resided in Bethesda since that time, retiring from the NEA in 1991. After his retirement, he met Cynthia and they married in 1998. The joining of these two loving families, and his loyal canine companions, provided him with many years of joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held, with family and friends, on May 18, 2013 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Rock Creek Mansion, 5417 West Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to SPCA International Animal Rescue at
