STEPHEN ADAM FARRIS, JR.  
Col. USAF (Ret.)  

Of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Swoyersville, PA, on January 20, 2014. Col. Farris, a resident of The Fairfax, graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1944. He served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot during WWII and retired after 30 years of service from the United States Air Force. His assignments included teaching at the Virginia Military Institute and command of the 48th Combat Support Group at RAF, Lakenheath, England. Col. Farris' decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He is survived by his children Jeanne Farris, of Reston, VA, Stephen A. Farris III, of Newport News, VA, Bobbie McGowan, of Newark, DE, Susan Farris, of Fairfax Station, VA, and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, James Farris. A Mass will be held at The Fairfax, 9100 Belvoir Woods Pkwy., Fort Belvoir, VA on Sunday, January 26 at 11 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030.
