Of Sterling, VA died on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Son of the late Flora Ellen Cameron Monahan and the late COL L. Paul Monahan Jr., brother to Gail Monahan and David Monahan, step-son to Patricia Monahan, step-brother to Robin George, Scott Trescott, and Tanya Stinson, brother-in-law to Katherine Lovello, David Weiss, Chip George and Mike Stinson, and uncle to Alex, Julia, Zoe, Cassidy, Jeremy, Anna, Peter, and Colin, he will be missed by many cherished cousins and friends. Tom was born in West Point, NY and lived in many places, both in the United States and the Far East, before settling in the Northern Virginia area in 1966. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and remained an avid Tar Heels fan. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the Owen School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He worked as a Principal Information Systems Engineer at The MITRE Corporation for ten years and previously as a manager at Noblis (Mitretek) and Computer Sciences Corporation, and as a lead program controller at Orbital Sciences Corporation. He enjoyed music and attending concerts, and was a lover of animals and sports cars. His charming wit and ready smile will be long remembered by those who loved him. A Memorial Service will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, VA on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to your local SPCA.
