VAN J. ABBOTT

August 17, 1945 - December 29, 2006

Born in Victoria, Texas. Survived by his wife, Susan J. Abbott of Woodbridge, VA; daughter, Brenda Abbott of Manassas, VA; two sisters, Fay Eilers and Jane Plunkett, both of Victoria, TX; many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Mr. Abbott served as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps as an Aviation Fire Fighter. He served in Vietnam. He received the Navy Commendation Medal for Heroic Achievement, Good Conduct Military Merit Medal and many other marksmanship awards.

After his service in the Marine Corps, Mr. Abbott served as a Fairfax County Fire Fighter for 29 years, 1971 - 2000. He was also a volunteer member of the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department for many years and will be remembered as the favorite and friendly bingo caller.

The family visitation service for Mr. Abbott will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at MOUNTCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA; where funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 12 Noon. Interment following at Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the following: Department of Surgery, Research Fund, Georgetown University Hospital, 3800 Reservoir Road, NW, 4th Floor, PHC, Washington, DC 20007. Attn: Patrick Jackson, M.D. Make checks payable to: Dept. of Surgery, Research Fund, Georgetown University Hospital. In the memo area of the check, indicate donation made in "Memory of Van J. Abbott" (Patrick Jackson, M.D.).
