WILLIAM E. CONOVER (Age 99) "Ellie"  

Passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Golden Living Nursing Home, Annandale, VA. William was born on October 12, 1913, in Arlington, VA. He was the husband of the late Frances Jarrell Conover. He is survived by three children, Dorothy Wilson (Arthur, deceased) of Waldorf, MD., Leon Conover (Jean) of Annandale, VA, and Betty Owens (Tom) of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His granddaughter Debbie preceded him in death. William served with the Arlington County, VA., Fire department from 1944 to 1967 where he retired as a Captain. On July 29, 2011, at the age 98, William attended the dedication ceremony of the new Fire Station #3, and was recognized as the oldest, surviving, paid Arlington County fireman. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203 and where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will be at National Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department, 3900 Lee Highway, Arlington, VA 22203.
