Armando DiFonso Obituary
DiFonso, Armando

Armando "Armie" DiFonso 86 , Wausau, passed away peacefully surrounded by members of his loving family on Tuesday July 22nd at Stoney River in Weston.

Armie was born July 31, 1927 in Harrisburg, PA. son of the late Sebastiano DiFonso and Lunieda (Saraceni) DiFonso.

Armie served his country honorably as a member of the US Navy during WWII. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he was a starting running back on the varsity football team and graduated with a degree in Engineering. During his college years Armie's grandmother introduced him to Elizabeth George. They married in November of 1950. They raised four children together until her passing in 1981. He continued working in the engineering field traveling extensively across the United States before moving to Wausau to accept a position at Murray Machinery in 1986. Armie made many trips to the east coast to visit his children. During this time his friendly travel agent who had taken a liking to him, noticed that he always traveled alone. After discovering that he was widowed she introduced him to her mother Mary who was also widowed. They dated briefly and were married on June 18th, 1988. Mary and Armando enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Armie's hobbies included woodworking, model trains, golf, reading, and cooking. His family was quick to request his famous Italian meatballs and he chuckled while watching to see who could eat the most. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren building projects with them in his workshop. Championship pinewood derby cars, birdhouses, and other fun projects were the proud results.
