Carolyn M. Payer, nee Meuret, 81, of St. Andrews Life Center of Niles formerly of Rogers Park. Beloved wife for 59 years to Ralph F. Payer. Loving mother of April Grilly, Betsy (Elizabeth) Payer, Brenda Payer, Lynn Payer and Melissa Wilson. Mother-in-law of John Roothaan, Joseph Donnelly and the late Glenn Wilson. Proud grandmother of Lauren and Max Grilly, Nicholas and Robin Wilson and Steven Roothaan. Dear sister of Grace King and the late George and Charles Meuret. Dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing, Wausau, WI. Carolyn began her nursing career at Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, served at Bethany Methodist Hospital in Chicago and practiced overseas in Saudi Arabia. 1990-2004 Northwestern University, Health Service Infirmary. Before her retirement, she worked at Misericordia of Chicago 2004-2007. She practiced Nursing into her seventies and throughout her career, was known for her dedication and compassion for those she served. Served as docent for the Oriental Institute for many years. Carolyn was a world traveler and avid gardener. She was active at her Parish, St. Ignatius, where she was a lector. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Saint Andrews Life Center, 7000 N. Newark, Niles, IL. Memorials to Misericordia/Heart of Mercy Center, appreciated.
