Harvey H. Scholfield Jr. Obituary
Harvey H. Scholfield Jr.

Harvey H. Scholfield Jr., lifelong resident of Wausau, passed away Dec 14, 2012--two days short of his 90th birthday. He was the CEO of MBX Packaging Specialists, a company that had its roots in a sawmill built in 1848 by Harvey's great-grandfather, Dr. William Scholfield.

Harvey was born in Wausau on December 16, 1922 to Harvey H. and Ruth Porter Scholfield. He was the youngest of three children.

After graduating from Principia College, he served his country in WWII as a US Army weather observer stationed in Iran. After the war, Harvey lived in Paris and worked for the Marshall Plan, which helped a devastated Europe rebuild. There he married Doris Montgomery of Los Angeles, CA. They returned to Wausau in 1951. Harvey was a loving father raising three children while working in the 4th generation family business--Marathon Box Company.

Harvey was the Chairman of the Wausau Ethics Board. At different times in his career he was President of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Woodson YMCA and the First Church of Christ Scientist in Wausau.

Harvey was a longtime board member of the Plum Lake Golf Club in Sayner, WI. He inaugurated a summer swim race across Plum Lake called the "Poisson Sweepstakes" which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next July.

Harvey had a life long love of football--cheering for the Badgers and the Packers right up to the very end!

An avid skier until age 85, his passion for skiing began on Rib Mountain before the advent of rope tows. He loved golf, hiking, viewing wildlife, and paddling a canoe. He lived his life fully, often saying "I'm a lucky guy!" and he was.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, sisters Mary Elizabeth "Lib" (Scholfield) Hickey and Joyce (Scholfield) Butzow, and his daughter Jan Scholfield (Randy) Harrington.

He is survived by his second wife, Helen K. Scholfield of Blowing Rock, NC, son Harvey S. Scholfield of Wausau (Lisa), daughter Lynne Scholfield (Mike Marchelya) of Denver, CO., and step children Marshall Tellekamp, Karl Tellekamp, Kimberley King, and Juliana (Tim) Averett.

The family wishes to thank Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their professional, respectful, and compassionate care of Harvey. Kay, Marty, Dawn, Amy, Rachel, Matt, Julie, Jane, Shelly, Laurie, Denise, Ambika, Jen, Manda, Jackie, Emma, Carrie and Tanya--you are all angels and we can't imagine having gone through this without you. We are also eternally grateful to our caregivers from Interim Healthcare--Roxy, Shannon, Rachel and Jess. Special thanks goes out to Marilyn Griffin, independent caregiver and Harvey's niece Patty (Ken) Hepburn of Atlanta, GA. You are all part of our village and will always be in our hearts.

There will be a memorial service after the first of the year at the Unitarian Universalist Church (date and time TBA). A second service will be held this summer in Sayner, WI.

Contributions in Harvey's memory can be made to The Woodson YMCA, the Plum Lake Library in Sayner, WI. or the United Way of Marathon County.
