Jane Ann Hanousek, 75, Ringle, died February 5, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Jane was born on January 14, 1939 in Wakefield, MI to the late Ted and Agnes (Gustafson) Johnson. She married Frank L. Hanousek on July 10, 1965, at Church of the Transfiguration, Episcopal, Ironwood, MI. Frank preceded her in death on May 22, 1990.

Jane worked at the Ironwood Daily Globe as a summer intern in 1960. She then went on to become a reporter for the Dubuque, IA, Telegraph-Herald from 1961-1964. Jane was at the radio station KMAQ, Maquoketa, IA, from 1964-1965. She worked at Sears in Waukegan, IL from 1965 -1966. Jane then moved to Wausau and worked as a reporter, editor, and columnist for the Wausau Daily Herald from 1966-1992. She was secretary of the Marathon County Civil Service Commission from December 1993-December 2003. Jane was also an administrative assistant from 1994 until 2010 for Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She also enjoyed making sock monkeys for the Talent Shop Artisan starting back in 2006.

Jane was a life member of the National and state FFA Alumni and Marathon County Agricultural Society. She was a member of the UW-SP Alumni, Altrusa International, Inc. of Wausau, past president; former District Seven committee chairman; former member of International strategic, long-range planning committee. Former memberships include; Boards of Birch Trails Girl Scout Council, American Red Cross of Marathon County, Wausau Community Concerts, Volunteer Center of Marathon County, Neurodevelopmental Clinic at Wausau Hospital, vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church, Chairman D.C. Everest outdoor education citizens advisory committee which developed Twin Oaks Environmental Center, secretary of Wausau Area Taxpayers League, YWCA Child Care Center Committee (predecessor of Wausau Child Care Inc.), Charter member of first Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women, secretary of Easton-Hatley PTA, Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 404 in Easton-Hatley, volunteer for Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services where she knit prayer shawls and helped to develop a prayer shawl program for ACCHS and Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Jane received many awards including; Altrusa International Inc. District Seven Lamplighter Award, D.C. Everest FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, Wausau School District Friend of Education, Wisconsin Soil & Water Conservation Association Outstanding Service, UW-Extension Friend of Extension, Association of Wisconsin School Administrators print media award, Daughters of the American Revolution national media award, and numerous trophies for police combat pistol shooting Powderpuff Competition.

Jane is survived by son, Frank L. (Kelly) Hanousek Jr., Ringle, grandchildren, Matthew, Tim, Caitlin, and Mitchell Hanousek, and Lindsey Antolik, sister, Gloria Johnson, Wausau, and many friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 330 McClellan St, Wausau. Rev. David Klutterman will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday, February, 10, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, MI.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to; Frank Hanousek Memorial Scholarship Endowment, NTC Foundation, 1000 Campus Drive, Wausau, or Wisconsin Valley Auxiliary, P.O. Box 302, Wausau 54402.
