Mathie John

John R. Mathie, age 65, of Wausau died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hospice House.

John was born on December 10, 1948 to the late Eugene and Marion (Gorectke) Mathie. John served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Kathy Kieffer on June 16, 1973. They just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.

John loved being in the woods and deer hunting. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed baseball and football. He retired as a welder at Greenheck.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy of Wausau; daughters Rachel (Dylan) Thompson, Breanne (Jay Krambs), and Kelsey Mathie all of Wausau; three grandchildren Brendan, Gabriel, and Shelby Thompson; sister Anne (Terry) Sturm of Wausau; brother Thomas Mathie of Wausau; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Kathy Stieber and Barb Mathie.

Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, July 14, 2014 at St. Michael's Church, 611 Stark St., Wausau. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Montogmery Plant Post No. 10. Visitation will take place from 3:30 pm until the time of service at the church on Monday.
