Dorothy M. Shipe, 84, of Curtis Creek Retirement Residence, formerly of 3820 Biscayne Quincy, died at 8:54 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 12, 2013) in her home. Born Sept. 6, 1929, in Sutter, Dorothy was the daughter of John F. and Amanda Wemhaner Shipe. Dorothy was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, computer games and traveling. Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Quincy High School and attended Quincy College and Elmhurst College where she received her bachelor's degree. Dorothy received her master's degree and Ph.D from George Peabody College for Teachers, which is now Vanderbilt University. Dorothy was a professor in the department of applied psychology for the Ontario Institute for Study and Education in Toronto, Canada, for 24 years until her retirement. Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Knapp (Howard) of Oshawa, Ontario; two grandchildren, Laura Knapp and Steven Knapp, both of Oshawa; a sister, Jean Loeffler (James) of Quincy; two nieces, Jana Speed and Jill Gross (Tony), both of Quincy; two great-nieces, Amanda Gross and Olivia Gross; and a great-nephew, Kevin Speed. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Ken Kramer. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery near Tioga, VISITATION: Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Blessing Cancer Center or the Quincy Humane Society.
