James R. Hawks Obituary
KEOKUK, Iowa -- James R. Hawks, 69, of Keokuk and formerly of Quincy, Ill., died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 13, 2014) at his home.

James was born March 27, 1944, in Hopkinsville, Ky., the son of James Richard and Anna Renshaw Hawks. He married Marsha Crook and they later divorced.

He served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He lived in Keokuk for 30 years and owned and operated A-1 Locksmiths. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed aviation and flying. He had served as a firefighter, E.M.T., paramedic, and enjoyed volunteering for the Red Cross and other organizations.

He was a former member of Keokuk Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed any and all electronics and gadgets. He loved and enjoyed spending all his time with grandkids and great-grandson. He was very proud of his grandchildren.

He is survived by lifelong friend and companion, Ellen Tate; two sons, Chuck (Mary) Hensley of Quincy and Ray Tate of Alexandria, Mo.; two daughters, Barb Moylan of Keokuk and Tamala (Donde) Lites of Farrell, Pa.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary (Elbert) Hall of Chicago and Jean (Cliff) Walker of Inglewood, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Tuesday graveside service to celebrate his life and full military rites will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

MEMORIALS: A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.
