CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Lawrence "Ted" Bornman, 65, of Carthage died at 2:56 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 3, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.

Born June 11, 1949, in Quincy, Ted was the son of Lawrence T. "Pie" and Velma I.H. Worttmann Bornman. He was first married to Marcheta Hester-Hays on July 7, 1970, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He later married Doris Honicutt in Lowell, Ind., on March 2001. She preceded him in death.

Ted was a 1967 graduate of Quincy High School where he excelled in football and wrestling and was also a graduate of the David Rankin Technical Institute in St. Louis.

He attended Bowen Christian Church and was a lifetime member of the Carthage VFW Club Post 5117 and served as surgeon general and helped with the fundraising committee and funeral detail. Ted was also a member of the Carthage Golf Club.

Ted was an avid golfer having won a Veterans Tournament in Battle Creek, Mich. He also got a hole in one this year. Ted's greatest enjoyment was watching his two grandsons in all of their sports activities, especially their racing events. He also loved spending time with his granddaughter, Alexandria.

He served his country in the Army with the 3rd Battalion, 76th Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division during the Vietnam War.

Ted was employed as a CAD operator for various companies in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa until his retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Jessica L. Bolton (Todd) of Bowen; a stepdaughter, Karrie Honicutt of Cedar Lake, Ind.; a stepson, Kevin Honicutt of Cedar Lake; three grandchildren, Remington C.T. "Remi" Bolton and Huntington C.T. "Hunter" Bolton, both of Bowen; and a stepgranddaughter, Alexandria Honicutt of Cedar Lake. Also surviving are several cousins.

Mr. Bornman was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday graveside service will be held in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, with Pastor Tom Mehaffy officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Carthage VFW Post 5117 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Bowen Christian Church and Thursday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.
