Robert Merland 'Clem' "Buckeye" Clemenson Obituary
MONTROSE, Iowa -- Robert Merland "Buckeye," "Clem" Clemenson, 80, of Montrose, died peacefully Wednesday (July 23, 2014) in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born April 3, 1934, in Montrose, a son of Carl C. and Olive Waider Clemenson. Bob married Betty Dresser on Sept. 1, 1963, and to that union were born three children. They divorced in 1983. He married Nancy Alley in 1987, and they later divorced.

He graduated from Montrose High School in 1952 and attended Keokuk Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Shangri-La from 1956 to 1958, and served in Naval Reserve Surface Division 9-52 for more than 25 years. Bob was a starch packer at Hubingers/Roquette in Keokuk for 29 years before his retirement. He also worked at Sheller-Globe and Fruehauf Trucking.

He was a member and trustee at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, and volunteered at the Salvation Army and Keokuk Area Hospital. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, and his favorite interests were music, dining out and watching baseball and football, especially the Denver Broncos. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

He was involved in local politics serving on the Montrose City Council and, in his later years, was a regular attendee at Lee County Board of Supervisors meetings.

He is survived by his children, Tammy (Mike) Koolbeck and Scott (Carmen) Clemenson of Cedar Rapids and Tony (Sheri) Clemenson of Norwalk; grandchildren Tyler Koolbeck, Chloe and Cody Clemenson, and Isabelle and Maggie Clemenson; and brother Bernard (Norma) Clemenson of Quincy, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; brothers Cheryl, Leland and LaVerne Clemenson; sister Marilyn Breuer; and best friend Jacob "Pete" Graber.

His family would like to thank all those who have shared their love, support and friendship during Bob's illness. Special thanks to the seventh floor nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center that cared for Bob during two hospitalizations the past year, the Great River Hospice staff while at home and to the staff at the Mercy Hospice House for the dignity they granted Bob during his final days.

SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, in the Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with Pastor Goldie Laymon conducting. Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery, Montrose.

VISITATION: 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
