Roy A. Rosendale, 92, of 2133 Sunny Lane, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday (April 26, 2013) in St. Vincent's Home. He was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Golden, a son of Hattie Rosendale. He married Norma Jackson on Feb. 1, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on Feb. 1, 2013. Roy served his country in the Army during World War II, receiving two bronze stars, while seeing action in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Quincy American Legion Post No. 37, VFW Post No. 5129, and the Elks Lodge No. 100. Roy was an avid Cardinals baseball and Quincy High School Blue Devil basketball fan. He also enjoyed collecting coins and most of all he loved to go dancing with his wife, Norma. Roy was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for 35 years for Vidas Transfer which later became Warsaw Trucking Co. After retiring from trucking, he worked for Greenmount Cemetery and also managed El Rancho Vista Estates. Survivors include his wife, Norma; four daughters, Beverly Hickerson (James "Jim") of Garland, Texas, Tanna Barry (Dan) of Quincy, Rebecca Kendall of New Burn, N.C., and Pamela Thornburg (Willis "Will") of Addison; seven grandchildren, Kim Burwinkel (Tom) of Plano, Texas, Kandi Ehrhart (Matt) of Quincy, Kari Chapman of Quincy, April Bergstrasser (Curt) of Wylie, Texas, Jon Milton (Diane) of Little Elm, Texas, Nick Milton (Amy) of Carrollton, Texas, and Jayme Thornburg of the Colony, Texas; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Rosendale was preceded in death by his mother; son-in-law, Norman Kendall; and one granddaughter, Lindsey Royal Thornburg. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Tony Metz. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday morning until time of services in the funeral home.
