Samuel "Sam" Dean Urton, 71, of 111 N. Eighth, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday (March 25, 2014) in the Sycamore Healthcare Centre. Sam was born Jan. 24 1943, in Elvaston, a son of George Wayne and Eliza Gail Lovell Urton. He graduated from Hamilton (Ill.) High School in 1961. Sam served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 until 1964. During that time he served aboard a ship off the border of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He will be fondly remembered by a sister-in-law, Mary Urton of Quincy; nephews, Kevin Anderson of Casey, Duke Anderson of Killeen, Texas, Mark Anderson of Bryan, Texas, and Kenneth "Boomer" Williams of Coatsburg; nieces, Julie Homrighausen of LaBelle, Mo., Carol Peterson of Fowler, Debbie Anderson of Quincy, Toye O'Brien of St. Roberts, Mo., Elly Passmore of Camp Point, Lori Vandiver of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Lisa Gorman of Atlanta, Ga.; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a few special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Urton and Wayne Urton and two infant brothers; sisters, Joy Anderson and Karen Williams; a sister-in-law, Marcia Anderson; and a nephew, Harold Urton. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Sunset Cemetery.
