KINDERHOOK, Ill. -- Tom Lippincott, 81, of Kinderhook, died at 12:13 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Mr. Lippincott was born July 25, 1932, in Kinderhook to George R. and Flossie E. Young Lippincott. He was married to Mildred Shay on Aug. 2, 1952, in Coatsburg and she died Nov. 29, 1979. He later married Kay Harm on April 11, 1982, in Kinderhook and she died July 2, 2001.

He farmed in the Kinderhook area all of his life and also worked for two decades as a crop adjuster. He graduated from West Pike High School in Kinderhook. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., then later in Germany.

Tom was a very active member in the Hull United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board, as a liturgist and lay speaker, and also enjoyed attending Bible study classes. He contributed his time and leadership to the Hull-Kinderhook Fire Department, the Kinderhook Cemetery Association and the Barry Food Pantry. He ran food and water out to the levees during the floods of 1993 and 2008.

He loved spending time with his family on vacations and at his grandchildren's activities. Tom never met a stranger and was well known for his boisterous laugh.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl Vertrees of Chatham, Rita (Chris) Blickhan of Mendon and Tammy (David) Orr of Kinderhook; his stepdaughters, Karen (David) Peters of Walnut and Jennifer (Stephen) Connelly of Kansas City, Mo.; his grandchildren, Tom and Kate Vertrees, Lindsay and Jason Wright, Drew and Dylan Orr, Dorian, Joseph and Jonathon Peters, and Meghan, Liam, Braeden and Blaine Connelly; and his great-grandchild, Livia Wright.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie Hardiek and Beth Lippincott; and a granddaughter, Cora Peters.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hull United Methodist Church in Hull with Duane Lanchester and the Rev. Sheila Kelly conducting. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook.

Pallbearers will be Jason Wright, Lindsay Wright, Tom Vertrees, Drew Orr, Dylan Orr, David Orr and Chris Blickhan.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hull United Methodist Church in Hull.

MEMORIALS: Barry Food Pantry or Hull United Methodist Church Altar Guild, in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo.
