Barbara J. Franzen Obituary
Barbara J. Franzen, 56, of Rockland died May 21, 2013, at South Sore Hospital. She was born in Weymouth, daughter of the late Frederick and Helen (Dunbar) Franzen and was raised and educated in Rockland. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1975. After high school, Barbara went to work at Dolby Business Machines in Rockland and later at Harland Check Co. in Norwell. She was last employed at Wearguard in Norwell until illness forced her retirement five years ago. She had a passion and extensive collection of lighthouses and she spent many hours of solitude visiting the Scituate Light. She enjoyed ceramics and bowling and was most fond of her daily Dunkin Donuts coffee. She was a proud member of the Rockland VFW Womens Auxiliary. She is survived by her siblings, William E. Franzen and his wife Rosalyn of Boylston, Russell F. Franzen and his wife Deborah of Abington and Christopher T. Franzen and his wife Kathleen of Hanover. Also surviving are several generations of nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Douglas A. Franzen. A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 3-6 p.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland. A funeral service was held at 6 p.m. at the close of visitation. After cremation her ashes will be scattered at sea near the Scituate Light. Donations in her name may be made to the Rockland Food Pantry, 12 Church St., Rockland, MA 02370.
