Alfred J. (Fred/AJ) Menard, III, 80, passed away at home on Friday, February 28, 2014. Born in Manville, RI, he was the son of the late RI House Speaker, Alfred U. Menard and Flora (Lessard) Menard. He was the husband of Roxanne L. (Masson) Menard, RN, formerly of Shawinigan Falls, SUD, Quebec, CA, and was a resident of South Yarmouth, MA. Mr. Menard is survived by his four children - Alfred R. Menard, IV and his wife, Laura Wistow of Gloucester, RI; John R. Menard of Washington, DC; Sandra P. Menard, RPh, of Cape Coral, FL, and Dr. James D. Menard and his wife, Jennifer Keeler Menard of Hillsborough, NH, as well as his four grandchildren | Jessica M. Voyer and Jason R. Voyer of Lincoln, RI, Alfred M. Menard, V of Gloucester, RI, and Maisy B. Menard of Hillsborough, NH. Mr. Menard also has three siblings | Raymond H. Menard, PhD, of Orlando, FL; Robert S. Menard, RPh, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Dorothy Menard of Lake Champlain, NY. Mr. Menard was a 45-year member of the National and RI Funeral Directors Association, as well as having served his country as a Korean Army Veteran with the 5th Armor Division and the 7770 Mortuary Detachment Division in France. He was the Founding President of the Woonsocket Comet Hockey Assoc., and Past President of the Lions Club of Lincoln, RI, where he was also a Melvin Jones Member. He operated and directed the Radio Lions program in Lincoln, RI, on WWON Radio annually and produced and directed the Lions Corner Monthly TV program in S. Yarmouth, which aired on PBS. Being a model Railroad OGauge train collector and operator, Mr. Menard was a member of the Train Collectors Club of America, the Train Collectors Assoc., Lionel Collectors Club of America, Lionel Railroad Club and the Cape Cod HiRailers Club. Mr. Menard was a former Cub Scout leader of Troop 6 in Woonsocket, RI, along with his wife, and he donated the bandstand to the Manville Veterans Memorial Park, as well as having planted Crimson trees in the park in honor of past veterans. In his earlier age, he was an honorary Police Officer in RI, working at the former Lincoln Downs Racetrack. After retirement from working in the funeral business for 45 years he formed the Cape Rocker Co., selling folding solid rock maple chairs imported from Canada out of his storefront in West Yarmouth, MA. Mr. Menard was a devote Catholic and member of Precious Blood Church, Woonsocket, RI, as well as a current member of St. Pius X Church, S. Yarmouth, MA. He was a CYO member at St. James Parish in Manville, RI, in his youth. Calling hours will be held from 7pm-9pm on Thursday, Mar 6th, at Morris, OConnor & Blute Funeral Home, S. Yarmouth, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 7th at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., S. Yarmouth, MA. A military burial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, Mar 8th, at the Rev. Eugene Lessard lot within St. James Cemetery in Manville, RI, under the direction of Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home.
