Ruby (V. Folkes) Walters, 89, formerly of Bedford, MA died on June 8, 2013 after a long illness. She was a resident of Bedford for 35 years. Born in Ballard's Valley, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica W.I. on November 22, 1923 to MacDonald and Amanda V. Folks (ne Delapenta), Ruby i mmigrated to the United States to be with her mother and brother who had become citizens several years earlier, at the age of 12. She grew up in the South End of Boston and graduated from Girls High School. She raised her children while working part-time and retired from a long full-time Career in the Alumni Records Department of Harvard University. Ruby was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Bedford where she served on the altar guild, arranging flowers for Sunday Service and attending every Sunday for over 30 years. She was a supporter of the Bedford Council on Aging, where she followed another of her many creative interests by learning calligraphy and watercolor painting. She was an extraordinary gardener, continuing to garden into her mid-80's, and amazing in the k itchen. She l oved to walk and exercise, play Mah-johng, pool, solve crossword puzzles, socialize and travel. She is survived by her husband, Francis E. Walters, children, Dianne and Gregory, and grandchild, Lawrence Jaja Walters-Smith. Funeral service s will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery , in Bourne, MA on Monday, June 17 at 12:30pm. Flowers are gratefully accepted at the cemetery.
