Mr. George A. Hoffman of Topsfield, formerly of Saugus, passed away on May 6th, 2013 at the age of 91. He was the husband of Marie (Jatsura) Hoffman of Topsfield. Beloved father of Janet Mirick and her fianc Arthur Ayre of Taunton, grandfather of two grandchildren, Carly Mirick and Chase Mirick and great grandfather of two great grandchildren, Derek and Morgan, and brother in law of Frank Jatsura and his wife Mildred of Missijauga, Ontario Canada. He was the brother of the late Frederick Hoffman and many nieces and nephews. George graduated from Saugus High School "39" Essex Agricultural School "42" Suffolk University "49" and Boston State College "51" He was a teacher in the Malden Public Schools for thirty years. George was also an instructor of ESL at Northern Essex Community College for many years. Mr. Hoffman served in the United States Army for three and half years including service in Italy during World War II as a corporal fifth grade. George was an inspiration for his jogging and power walking over a period of 29 years. He was known for his gardening and dancing. He was a past commander of Topsfield Post 255 American Legion, and member of VFW 2346 of Saugus, and the Elks of Peabody and a member of the Topsfield Congregational Church. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service was held in the Topsfield Congregational Church, East Common St., Topsfield, Monday, May 13th at 11 AM. Relatives and Friends invited. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. Visiting hours in the Peterson- O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62), Danvers, Sunday, May 12th from 2 - 6 P.M.
