Mary Ellen Kaar, 97, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at Advocate Condell Medical Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1915 in Quincy, IL. Long time resident of Braintree, MA and Libertyville, IL for many years. Mary Ellen was a past president of the Libertyville Womans Club, member of First Presbyterian Church and volunteer at Condell Hospital. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She was also an active member and employee of the Girl Scouts of America. Surviving are five children, Joseph (Kelly) Kaar of Magnolia, AR, John (Alison) Kaar of Chatham, MO, Joan Kaar of Lindenhurst, James (Denise) Kaar of Grayslake and Jill (Jerry) Hanson of Lindenhurst; 6 grandchildren, Kim, David, Dan (Staci), Taylor, Andrew and Lillian; 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Kaar in 2005. Visitation were from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W.
