Richard P. Predella, Sr., age 85, died peacefully, Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy Trade School. He has lived in Braintree for fifty years. Dick was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Orleck and the U.S.S. Perkins as a Boilerman 3/c. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Dick was employed as a plumber with Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 12 Boston. He has been retired many years and was a member of Local 12 for sixty years. He was a longtime active member and former usher at Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree. He was also a leader in the churchs successful Scouting program for many years. Dick enjoyed gardening, his summers in Wareham and his many winters in Destin, Florida, but most of all he loved being surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband for sixty years of Jean M. (Thompson) Predella. Devoted father of Richard P. Predella, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Sturbridge, Peter E. Predella and his wife Lisa of Medfield, Alan D. Predella and his wife Gerri of Marshfield, David J. Predella of Braintree, Robert P. Predella and his wife Susan of Houston, Texas. Loving grandfather of twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Dear brother of Yvonne Gallo of Kingston and Pauline Maura of Winter Haven, FL. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral was from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Wednesday, February 13th, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Thomas More Church, corner of Hawthorrne Road and Elm Street, Braintree at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were at the funeral home Tuesday, February 12th, from 4 | 8 p.m. Interment with Military Honors at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
