Ann Katherine Giberti Carriere died peacefully May 20, 2013, at home under the care of her devoted husband of almost 52 years, Dr. Arthur Peter Carriere, in West Bridgewater. Daughter of Gertrude Hickey and Amedeo Giberti of Whitman, she graduated from Whitman High School in 1955. She received her bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and French Studies from Emmanuel College in 1959. Following her undergraduate studies and having received a scholarship from Cardinal Spellman, she matriculated to the Pius XII Institute in Florence, Italy, to study piano under Maestro Scarpini. Upon returning from her study abroad, she married Arthur, and they began their life together in Braintree, where she taught high school French to help support a growing family while he finished his medical training. She was a lover of music, art and culture. She was also a tenacious dreamer, and relentless idealist with an unshakeable faith. She possessed an immeasurable generosity; giving of herself to a generation of piano students, forgoing a career as a concert pianist and devoting herself completely to her nine children and unfailingly to her husband, Arthur. Together they rebuilt a falling-down farmhouse she had found; a place, which would become one of her greatest, prides; a place that without her insistence might not have been the home it has become. For in that home can be heard the faint notes of Chopin and Debussey; the raucous laughter she incited, and her greatest pride, the family by whom she is survived, husband, Arthur Peter Carriere; sister, Donna M. Furio of Kingston; children, Paul Carriere and his wife Teresa of Suffield, Conn., Pamela Ann Carriere-Oliwa and her husband Walter of Bedford, N.H., Julie Carriere Martin and her husband Steve of West Bridgewater, James Carriere and his wife Wendy of Loganville, Ga., Lisa Carriere-Magel and her husband Christian of Sydney, Australia, Thomas Carriere and his wife Lisa of Enfield, Conn., Erin Carriere-Kretschmer and her husband Matthias of Silver Springs, Md., Michael Carriere of New York City and West Bridgewater and Nicholas Carriere of New York City and West Bridgewater, and 15 grandchildren.
