Carmelo Sonny Conte, age 86, a lifelong resident of Cohasset, passed away on May 9, 2014. He was with all his family by his side at the home of his son Jack and wife Joan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Harding) Conte. He was the son of the late Philomena (Sciallo) Conte and Carlo Conte of Cohasset. He was the loving father of Linda Conte Riccio and her husband, Alphonse of Cohasset, John Jack Conte and wife Joan M. of Hull, and the late Richard Conte of Cohasset. Cherished Papa of Jenna and Jack Conte of Cohasset. He was the loving brother of Rosalie Kowalski, Barbara E. Conte, Gerard A. Conte and wife Lucille of Cohasset, and the late Vito Conte. Sonny also leaves many nieces and nephews. Sonny served in the US Army in World War II overseas in Japan. Upon his return home from service, he worked with his father doing furniture and antique repair and refinishing. He then had an opportunity to be a Police Officer in Cohasset under Chief Pelletier; this work was what he loved and continued for 44 years, until his retirement. Visiting hours was on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. A Graveside Service followed immediately in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Sonny may be made to the Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Reservoir Park Dr., Rockland, MA. or to the Massachusetts Hospital School, 3 Randolph St., Canton, MA.
