Nancy (Anna Sprissler) Burns, a Cohasset resident for over 50 years, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the age of 95. She was the beloved wife of the late John N. Burns whom she was married to for 57 years. She is survived by her children, John N. Burns Jr. of Essex and Margaret Collins Burns, Nancy (Burns) Lynch and her husband William of Chestnut Hill and Martha Burns of New Haven, Conn.; cherished grandmother of George Lynch and his wife Melissa of Chestnut Hill, Martha (Lynch) Kopanon and her husband Kevin of Hingham, Matthew Lynch and his wife Barbie of Hingham, Madeleine Burns of Stowe, Vt., and Deirdre Burns of Burlintgon, Vt. Nancy is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and respected and has left her grieving family to be with her beloved John. Nancy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Sprissler and sister of the late Mary Wilkinson of Calif. She was a graduate of Girls Latin School and Emmanuel College, Class of 1940. She traveled the world while earning a masters degree in Education and completing graduate studies at Clark University, Smith College and the University of Washington. She taught in the Marshfield school system until the age of 70. A winter resident of Waterville Valley, N.H., she was an accomplished skier, bridge player, gardener, cook, knitter and avid reader. A memorial Mass was held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthonys Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset. Interment will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
