George William Fairburn, age 93, of Concord, died Sunday January 20, 2013 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorris (Carter), adored father of; Doreen McCabe and husband, Dennis of Westford, and Janice Nickerson and husband Wayne of Kingston, Ma. Loving grandfather of Matthew Fairburn Carr, and Holly Susan Nickerson. Also survived by brother, Donald T. Fairburn and wife, Judith, of Wilmington, NC, and sister, Claire Hamilton and husband Daniel, of North Attleboro, and sister -in-law, Lynda Fairburn of Tavares, Fla. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert Stewart Fairburn, and Douglas Colson Fairburn. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, December 27, 1919, he was the son of Annie Maude (Stewart) and Clarence Fairburn, of Warrington, England. A WWII Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he was wounded in the advance on Germany in March 1945 and was retired Lt., Cambridge Fire Department. Mr. Fairburn loved his family, reading, tennis, skiing, bird watching, gardening, and the Town of Concord, his home for more than 60 years. Services were private. Concord's town flag flew at half-staff on Friday January 25th in recognition of Mr. Fairburn's service to his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
