John D. Melin, 81, of North Easton, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He was the loving husband for 51 years of Beverly A. (Burrill) Melin. Born Jan. 1, 1933 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Eva Melin. A lifelong resident of Easton, he graduated from Oliver Ames High School and also obtained an Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology. John was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He served as an Easton Firefighter/EMT for approximately 40 years. Following that, he joined the Easton Police Department as an Animal Control Officer. John was very civic-minded. He served on the Easton Cemetery Commission, the Veterans Scholarship Committee, the Board of Health, and worked as a constable for the Town of Easton. For many years, he also was dedicated to his work as a custodian at his church. John has been a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Johns hobbies included collecting stamps and coins, gardening, oil painting, Boston sports, and spending time with his family. Along with his wife, he is survived by his 4 children; Lisa Soares and her husband Daniel of Stoughton, Alan Melin of Mansfield, Lynn Melin of Easton, and Scott Melin of Easton. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughter Lauren and 3 grandsons. He is the brother of Gordon Melin of Easton and the late Robert Melin. Visiting hours were on Monday, March 10, 2014, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Copeland/MacKinnon Funeral Home, 38 Center Street, No. Easton. A funeral service was held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 143 Lincoln Street, N. Easton at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Burial at Village Cemetery, 15 Main Street, No. Easton.
