Kathleen C. Kay (Cooney) O'Brien of Holbrook, passed away April 29, 2014. Wife of the late Edward F. OBrien, she was the loving mother of Kathleen Albanese of Holbrook, Marie Procopio and her husband Bob of Abington, retired Holbrook Fire Chief Edward OBrien and his wife Kathy of Whitman, retired State Police Lieutenant James OBrien and his wife Elaine of East Bridgewater and William OBrien and his wife Sharon of Holbrook; dear grandmother of Amanda Smith and her husband Paul Smith of Winthrop, Deana Kelley and her husband Chris Kelley of East Bridgewater, Katie Procopio of Abington, Jeremy and Sarah OBrien of Whitman, David OBrien of South Boston, Meaghan, Brendan and Timothy OBrien of East Bridgewater, Dylan and Maci-Kate OBrien of Holbrook and the late Joshua OBrien; loving great-grandmother to Madyson Regan, Tyler Smith and Charlotte OBrien. Also survived by many caring and loving nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Ronald OBrien of Braintree. She was the devoted sister of the late Mary Troy and John Cooney. Kay was born in South Boston and was a graduate of Gate of Heaven High School. She was the assistant treasurer for the town of Holbrook for 16 years. Reposing was held at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 South Franklin Street (Rte. 37), Holbrook, until 9:45 a.m. Monday, May 5, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church in Holbrook. Visiting hours were Sunday, May 4, 4-8 p.m. Burial at Union Cemetery in Holbrook.
