Evelyn Davenport Greeley, 90, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was born May 24, 1922, in Boston Mills, Ohio, to the late Franklyn Edwin Davenport and Laura Johnson Davenport. She grew up in a number of communities in the eastern United States before settling in Newton, Massachusetts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Folsom Greeley, her son Roger Davenport Greeley, and her sister Shirley Davenport Moussette. Mrs. Greeley graduated from Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts in 1945 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a degree in nursing. She served in the US Army Nursing Corps, was a Visiting Nurse and a school nurse in Westwood, Massachusetts. She was married to Richard Greeley for 49 years. After getting married, they lived for 7 years in South and Latin American countries including Mexico, Peru and Nicaragua before moving back to the United States and settling in Needham, Massachusetts where they lived for 24 years. They moved to Eastman in Grantham, New Hampshire before retiring to Carolina Meadows in 1992. She was very active in community affairs at Carolina Meadows. Mrs. Greeley is survived by her sons and their wives Richard and Elizabeth Greeley of The Woodlands, TX and Donald and Sarah Greeley of Durham, NC and six grandsons; her sister Edythe Welsh of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and her brother Franklyn Davenport of Bellevue, WA.
