Carolyn Freeman Obituary
Carolyn Freeman, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home May 30, 2014. She was born in Needham, June 15, 1933, daughter of the late James P. and Gladys (Long) Freeman and was predeceased by her siblings to Roger Freeman and Joan Freeman Smith. She was the loving mother of Carolyn Atkins Hunt (and her husband Robert Hunt) of Rangeley, Maine, Susan Atkins (Scott) Tardif (and her husband Matthew Tardif) of Plymouth, Stephen D. Freeman of Margate, Fla., and Pamela Freeman Churchill (and her husband Michael Peterson) of Plymouth; and her best friend Irene M. Littlefield of Margate, Fla.; and also leaves her grandchildren, Markham S. Scott, Casandra S. Scott, Richard Ricky M. Churchill Jr., Christopher P. Churchill, and Michael R. Churchill. Carolyn was raised on Freemans Turkey Farm in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1952. The turkey farm was where the local residents would go for their turkeys and eggs in the 1940s and 1950s. Carolyn loved horses and fondly spoke of her horse Penny. She used to rear her horse in front of the kitchen window to tease her Mom. She went on to become one of the first women to work in operations at Eastern Airlines. Thereafter, Carolyn married Stanley Atkins of Scituate in 1960 and raised their four children in Plymouth. Together they built Indianhead Resort, a family campground located in the Ellisville village of Plymouth. Later divorced, Carolyn moved to Margate, Fla., where she lived with her best friend Irene and son Stephen. During the months of April through October, Carol would reside at the campground which is owned by her daughter Pamela and her family. Her family gives special thanks to Carolyns daughter Susan who took care of her mom around the clock for the past weeks and Pamela, Irene and David who assisted Sue with her care. Visitation was held in celebration of Carolyns life Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. There was a reception at the Plymouth Yacht Club at 6 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cranberry Hospice, Inc., 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360 or the Children at Mooseheart, c/o Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2485, 601 State Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360.
