Mr. Joseph P. Egan, age 79, of Plymouth, passed on Monday August 5, 2013, surrounded by his children and loved ones after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Patricia G. (Mulvey) Egan and the loving companion of the late Judy Howard. Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of Mary (McCormack) Egan. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of St. Marys Boys High School. He had lived in Lynn, until he moved to Plymouth in 1972. Joseph had served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Joseph had worked as a Vice President of Sales at Boston Light Source. An avid golfer and reader, Joseph enjoyed doing the Sunday New York Times Crossword, politics and collecting political memorabilia, and his Boston Red Sox. He loved the time that he spent with his kids and their families, living his retirement on the golf course, near the water, and his winters in Naples, Fla. Joseph is survived by two sons; Joseph P. Egan Jr., of Melbourne, Australia, and Kevin M. Egan, of Plymouth, a daughter Maureen P. Egan Chen and her husband Will, of New York, his sisters and brothers; Mary Holloway, Eileen McCarthy, Patricia McCarthy, Barbara McCarthy, Edmund McCarthy, and Daniel McCarthy, all of Lynn, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Marguerite Mudge. Joe and his children are forever grateful to the staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for everything that they did for him and his family, and continue to do in the fight against cancer. His Funeral will be held on Friday at 9am from the Solimine Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home 67 Ocean St. (RTE1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in St. Joseph Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4pm-8pm.
