Mr. Donald P. Durgin, age 88, of Beverly, formerly of Saugus, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Carolyn (Halpin) Durgin. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Smith) Durgin. He lived in Saugus for the greater part of his life, and was a graduate of Saugus High School. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an inspector for General Electric in Lynn for 42 years until his retirement in 1988. Don loved music, especially Big Band and jazz and enjoyed playing trumpet his whole life. He also loved writing short stories, and telling stories of his life and his childhood. He is survived by his two children; David Durgin and his wife Patricia (OKeefe) of Newburyport and Robin (Durgin) DiCenzo a nd her husband Mike of Saugus; five grandchildren; David and Delia Durgin of Newburyport; Crystal (DiCenzo) Ellis and her husband Chris of Burlington; Janelle DiCenzo of Peabody and Michael DiCenzo of Saugus; one great-grandson; Connor Ellis of Burlington; one sister; Dorothy Durgin of Manchester; as well as many nieces and nephews including Stephen, Brian and Peter Durgin and Katie (Durgin) Libby. He was the brother of the late Frank A. Durgin, Jr. His funeral was held on Friday at 10AM in the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Saugus.
