Elmo 'Al' William Savi Falzarano. Born in Saugus in 1917 to John and Maria Falzarano. He passed away April 8th at the age of 95, in Roseville, CA. He lived most of his life in Saugus, where he and his wife Irene, who passed away in 1991, raised their family. Al is survived by his daughter Ann, of Incline Village, NV, his son Bruce, daughter-in-law Diane, and granddaughters Lauren and Claire, all of Roseville CA. He is also survived by his sister Gloria Peluso of Peabody. He was preceded in death by his brothers Frank, Clement, Salvatore, Vincent, and John, as well as sisters Rose, Flora, Amelia, Mary, and Lucille. He was a graduate of Boston University and Bentley College. Al served in the Marine Corps as an officer and fighter pilot in WWII and Korea, attaining the rank of Major, prior to his honorable discharge following the Korean conflict. After the Service, he became a career teacher and department head at Saugus High School, and before SHS at the Parlin Junior High in Everett. He retired from SHS in 1989. After his retirement, he became a fixture at the VFW in Saugus, helping out at Bingo and enjoying the friendship of many of his fellow veterans. He loved gardening, sharing his fresh fruits and vegetables with family and friends for decades. In the winter, he loved to ski, and continued to do so well into his mid 80s. Throughout his life Al followed the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a Fenway Faithful and a part of the Red Sox Nation in the truest sense, keeping up with his team no matter where in the country or the world he was living. His final days were punctuated by his joy at the Red Sox beating the Yankees in the first two games of the 2013 season. Visitation will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, MA with honors, on April 27th from 12-1 PM, followed by a graveside service at 1:15. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saugus chapter of the VFW.
