Ralph Sarni of Melrose passed into rest on August 28, 2013 in his 95th year. Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late James and Mary Sarni. Husband of 66 years to the late Lorna (Lawson). He is survived by Barbara Mitchell and her late husband Joe of California, Richard Sarni and his wife Sue of the Netherlands, Dennis Sarni and his wife Terry of California, Robert Sarni of Saugus, Gregory Sarni and Sharon Walsh of Melrose and Groton and Gail Sarni and husband Richard Batt of Cambridge. Caring brother of Mary Rubino of Wakefield, James Sarni Jr and his wife Jeanette of Melrose and the late Jack Sarni. Loving grandfather of Jeffery, Anne, Danielle, Jennifer, Brittany, Alex, and Isabella. A graduate of New York Military Academy, he graduated Boston University before serving as a Marine Corps Captain in the Pacific during WWII. He owned Sarni Cleaners of Boston and later worked for Brad Hutchinson Real Estate. A longtime member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, the National Lancers and served as Military Aid to Governor John Volpe. Ralph loved his country and the city of Melrose. He was a founding member of the Church of Incarnation and the Mount Hood Park Association. He was a devoted animal lover and enjoyed riding his three horses and a life of companionship from seven German Shepherd Dogs. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday Sept. 3rd at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
