Raymond F. Empey Jr., age 73, of Wareham passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Martha (Hampe) Empey. Born in Boston, the son of the late Raymond Floyd Empey and Lilian (Ruel) Empey, he lived in Wareham for the past 25 years. Raymond was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1958. He attended Newbury Junior College and served in the United States Navy. He retired as a supervisor from Brookfield Engineering Labs in Middleboro. He was a member of the Friends of Boston Harbor Islands and narrated tours of Boston Harbor, belonged to the American Light House Foundation, Great Lakes Light House Keepers Association, US Light House Society. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed stamp collecting and pharology. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael F. Empey and wife Lynn of Bellows Falls, Vt., Mark G. Empey and wife Paula of N.Y., Guy M. Empey and wife Sandra of Middleboro; a daughter, Beth A. Morley and husband Robert of Norton; two stepchildren, James Carine and wife Kathleen of N.Y., Constance Mish and husband Christopher of Taunton; two sisters, Lynere A. Babcock of Byfield, Laureeann Ruel of Tenn.; a brother, Paul Empey of Nova Scotia; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn Mortuary, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven. Visiting hours were held from 5-8 p.m., following the service. Burial was private. Donations may be made to Friends of Boston Harbor or New England Center for Homeless Veterans.
