Donald T. Burke, Quincy Police Department, Retired, age 76, died at home, Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Donald was born in Boston, raised and educated in Dorchester. He was a graduate of Saint Matthews Elementary School and Dorchester High School and was also a graduate of Quincy College. He has lived in Weymouth for twenty-two years, previously many years in Quincy. Donald was a Quincy Police officer for thirty years. He was appointed to the department on December 4, 1969 and retired on February 1, 1999. Most of his career he was assigned to the Merrymount and Germantown areas. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran having served aboard the U.S.S. Cowens, DD 776, in the mid 1950s as a radioman and seaman. Beloved husband of Esther L. Linn (Carlson) Burke. Devoted father of Christina M. Gagn and her husband Mathieu of Wakefield, Patrick J. Burke, M.D., Linnea M. Burke and Brendan C. Burke all of Weymouth. Loving grandfather of Charles and Marc. Dear brother of Jack Burke of Arlington, Diane Nash of Dorchester and Margie Perchard of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Wednesday, July 30th at 6 p.m., followed by Military Honors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial visitation at the funeral home will be held prior to the service from 3-6 p.m. At the request of the family interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donalds memory may be made to the Germantown Neighborhood Center, 333 Palmer Street, Quincy, MA 02169. You are invited to visit or call 617-472-6344.
