BALLARD EAST BEND Joseph "Michael" Ballard Nov. 7, 1943 - August 7, 2012 Mr. Joseph "Michael" Ballard, age 68 of East Bend, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born in Sumter, South Carolina on November 7, 1943 to the late Malcolm James and Sarah Pearle Monroe Ballard. He had served in the United States Air Force, and was a Director in the Instrumentation Technology Industry for many years. Michael is survived by his wife, Sandra Elliott Ballard of the home; two daughters, Tara Ballard and partner, Nick Jongebloed of Clemmons, North Carolina and Lisa McCollough of Vidalia, Georgia; one step-daughter, Kirsten Oakes and husband, Billy of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Riley, Cameron and Devon Oakes; one brother, Jim Ballard of Wilmington, North Carolina; and two sisters, Anna Gunza of Wilmington and Susan Lanier of Hampstead, North Carolina. Michael leaves behind his beloved pets, Bella and Lilygrace to love their Mommy. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Collinstown Presbyterian Church in Westfield, North Carolina with Pastor Tracey Collins and Donnie Gray officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Amyloid Research Fund, Boston University School of Medicine, 72 East Concord Street, K-503, Boston, Massachusetts 02118.
